History and Overview

Before the hue and cry of "silver" on the Comstock brought miners
here, Nevada was just a stopover for pioneers on their way to California. With
the arrival of settlers, the church was not far behind. Methodist missionaries
were among the first trailblazers.
In the winter of 1868 the town site of Reno was established and in the
spring the first meeting of this church took place. Our first building was
built in 1870 - yes, what has become Reno First United Methodist Church is the
oldest church in Reno. In 1926 the cornerstone of the present church was laid.
We

"what a warm and friendly congregation" we are. First Church is
about people worshiping and serving God among our members, in our community
and in our world. Click Here to learn how we
