150 Years of Reno First

Nevada was granted statehood in 1864 and recently celebrated the sesquicentennial of that historic event. As Pastor Kris might say, "That's a ten dollar word for celebrating 150 years of the Silver State's existence."

In 1868, just four years later, what is now Reno First United Methodist Church was es-tablished and has been a significant spiritual presence in the ongoing story of our state. In 2018 First Church will host a series of events and activities to commemorate our sesquicentennial year.
Recently you should have received a letter from Pastor Kris Marshall, Church Council Chair Evelyn Grupe, and FUM Foundation Chair Denise Hedrick inviting you to host an informal group of conversations called "Sesquicentennial Summer Gatherings." Please give prayerful consideration to this appeal.
The sesquicentennial provides an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our church to communicate with and seek involvement from our northern Nevada community. There will be many ways to inform and educate about the accomplishments of the people of Reno First, but more than that, we will be setting the stage for the dynamic future of the institution.

Using the theme of "Now and the Future," the Church Council and the First United Methodist Foundation of Reno board will collaborate on a series of ventures to inspire and involve not only church members, but attempt to appeal to a broader community, including other organizations and leaders.
This is the beginning of our plan. We have a short period of time for concentrated effort by everyone to accomplish our goals. YOU ARE INVITED!! We need your talent, expertise and willing attitude to bring this exciting opportunity to fruition.

Please return your response card to the church office by June 5.
